Home Prospects How We Work
Harborough Mews operates using a trauma-informed care model. We understand that many of the children in our care have experienced significant adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and our approach is designed to create safety, trust, and empowerment at every level.
Our staff are trained to interpret behaviour through the lens of trauma rather than viewing it as defiance. This perspective shapes every interaction, every decision, and every team discussion at Abington House.
Our team operates on a rota-based system covering early, late, and sleep-in shifts, ensuring consistent care and a familiar team presence for our young people. We aim to maintain a minimum staffing ratio of two staff per child at all times during waking hours.
Each home is led by a Registered Manager, supported by Deputy Managers and Senior Support Workers. Every child has a designated key worker who coordinates their care plan, advocates for their needs, and maintains relationships with external professionals.
Individual care plans are developed collaboratively with children, social workers, and families. Plans are reviewed regularly and updated to reflect the child's evolving needs, progress, and aspirations.
All staff receive regular individual supervision and participate in group reflective practice sessions. This ensures continuous professional development and provides a safe space to process the emotional demands of the role.
We work closely with local authorities, education providers, CAMHS, and other professionals to provide a holistic package of support. Regular LAC reviews, professionals' meetings, and pathway planning ensure coordinated care.
Robust safeguarding policies underpin everything we do. All staff are trained in child protection procedures and we maintain rigorous recording, reporting, and escalation processes to keep every young person safe.
